HOW THE BIRDS GOT THEIR COLOURS
WHEN THE WORLD WAS YOUNG, a beautiful arch appeared in the sky. This arch, which was the rainbow, seemed to take color from all around. There were all the reds, the blues, greens, yellows, and purples. It continued growing and growing, right before your eyes.
Slowly, the rainbow began to vibrate as it grew larger and larger. Then, finally, it exploded! The rainbow became a million pieces that floated in the air as they slowly descended to the ground.
As the million colorful pieces of the rainbow fell, the pieces changed into all the birds we know today.
Some of the birds, like the crow, didn’t like the feeling of falling, and they screamed out in horror, like this: “Aaahhhhh! Aaahhhhh! Aaahhhhh!”.
Other birds thought it was the funniest feeling they ever had and started to laugh, “Haaaaaa! Haaaaaa! Haaaaaa!”, just like the Kookaburra.
Still others thought it was the most beautiful feeling of all, so they spread their wings wide, opened their throats, and started to sing the most beautiful songs you could ever hear.
That is how the birds got their colors and their voices, because of that rainbow, way back in the Dreamtime.
¿POR QUÉ TIENEN LOS PÁJAROS ESOS COLORES?
Cuando el Mundo era joven, un precioso arco apareció en el cielo. Este arco, que era el arcoíris, parecía que tenía todo tipo de colores. Había rojos, azules, verdes, amarillos y morados. Continuaba creciendo y creciendo, delante de tus ojos. Lentamente, el arcoíris empezó a vibrar mientras que se hacía más y más grande. Entonces, finalmente, explotó. El arcoíris se convirtió en millones de piezas que flotaban en el aire mientras que descendían lentamente hacia el suelo. Mientras que esos millones de trozos del arcoíris caían, las piezas se convirtieron en los pájaros que conocemos hoy en día. Algunos de los pájaros, como el cuervo, no le gustaba la sensación de caída y empezó a gritar con horror así: Ahhhhh! Ahhhhhh! Ahhhhhhh! Otros pájaros pensaban que era la sensación más divertida que nunca antes habían tenido y empezaron a reír, “Haaaaa! Haaaaa! como el cucaburra. Otros creían que era la sensación más bonita de todas, así que desplegaron sus alas, aclararon sus gargantas y empezaron a cantar las canciones más bonitas que jamás hayas escuchado antes.
Y así fue como los pájaros consiguieron esos colores y esas voces, gracias a ese arcoíris.
